My music

.....I tried to put up the video for Nymphetamine by Cradle of Filth, but for some reason it didn't work.....and I don't know much about HTML, so here is a list of bands that I like:

Paradise Lost
Cradle of Filth
Sireina
Amorphis
Nightwish
Dark Tranquillity
Emilie Autumn
The Cranberries
Malice Mizer
Moi Dix Mois
My Dying Bride
Within Temptation
Lacuna Coil

Books that moved me

I am Morgan le Fay by Nancy Springer
Darkness by John Saul
In the Forests of the Night, Demon in my View, Shattered Mirror, and Midnight Predator all by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes

....and a massively huge coffee table book overflowing with pictures of Gothic architecture

People I look up to

Mana
Kambriel
Dani Filth
Tony
Morten Veland

Movies I like

Underworld, Thirteen Ghosts, The Headless Horseman, etc....does a Cradle of Filth dvd count as a movie?

TV shows I watch

Nip/Tuck

Law and Order SVU/CI
Medium (sometimes)
CSI (sometimes)

Age is wrong.

Groovy quotes

"Since the kitchen was new, I thought it would be ironic to put a skeleton in there."--Dani Filth

"The clock's a little slow. Probably because Steve was standing under it." -Mrs. Durant

"Anything sounds funny if you put the word 'man' in front of it. Like....man-thong." -Cheryl

"Forget... the speed of light. Darkness travels faster than light--it's already there!"--Konstantinos

Did you ever get my reply to your comment about the Gothic Lolita patterns?

Well this all depends on if you have the money to devote/spend on it. Japanese Lolita is VERY expensive. My first dress that I purchased (and currently the only one that I have) I spend about 22,000 Yen on...roughly 210 USD.
The most popular brand right now is Baby, The Stars Shine Bright. The dress that I own is from the brand Metamorphose. Mana's label Moi-Meme-Moite is probably the most expensive, and the smallest. All of the Lolita brands only make dresses in one size which makes it hard for western women when it comes to sizing. Japanese women are obviously smaller and shorter than American women so it takes a little guesswork to figure out if a dress is going to fit you or not. If you are a little larger, as I am, shirring is your friend and it makes the dresses stretchier and therefore fit a range of sizes.

If you don't have the cash like I do, I tend to sew a lot of my own Lolita clothes. The Gothic&Lolita Bible as well as Gosurori are great mooks (magazine/books) that can show you how to sew your own. Because both of these mooks are in Japanese there is a little bit of frustration when it comes to making things from the patterns. Check back for the links in my reply to the other post for a good place to start. There is a great tutorial on how to make your own skirts, which is what I used to get started. Also there is a PDF on how to translate the patterns in Gosurori.

EGL is a term that Mana coined called Elegant Gothic Lolita. The EGL community on Livejournal is a good place to learn about the fashion. Beware though that there are A LOT of bitchy people on there and they don't take that well to newbies for some reason. I usually just lurk and only come out for questions that I cannot find the answer to on my own. You could also join egl_comm_sales. There you can watch the sale posts and buy Lolita clothes secondhand. Most people sell them for below what they paid, but be careful as some people tend to try and rip people off.

Hrm...let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. You could always email me directly: jennifer dot huston at gmail dot com.

Oh, yeah....I saw your reply on the Gothic Lolita post. It would be appreciated very much if you could share some of your expertise. I haven't really thought about it very much until recently, when I googled Mana and discovered how beautiful Gothic Lolita outfits can be, and really have no idea where to start!
I don't have a Livejournal, but can get one if necessary....is the EGL on there a bunch of people who like the clothing, or the actual EGL designer label?

Sry, I haven't been on in a while, having had exams this past week, but I'll check out the links.
I don't have the money, wish I did....was hoping I could get by by staring at a bunch of pictures and altering commercial patterns to try to make something similar. Heard Tokyopop will be translating the Gothic&Loilta Bible into English starting next month. Can't wait to find one!
With Gothic Lolita, I've noticed that it's getting a lot more popular....maybe by the time I do have the money, it will be easier to find? Like I know Heavy Red is starting to sell some things...pity Gothic fashion is so much more expensive than mainstream.
Oh yeah, what's going on with the whole Mana thing? I mean, I know who he is, obviously, but....he is, for me, possibly the world's biggest enigma.

Good luck. Tulle really is a pain to work with...and the more of it there is, the bigger the pain. It just goes all over the place, you know? x'D
